Teaching

Teaching philosophy: As a first-generation college student, my professors played an invaluable role through my undergraduate career, helping me navigate a myriad of academic, athletic, and personal circumstances. My experiences in the classroom taught me not just how to be a good scholar, but to be a more well-rounded, compassionate person. As an instructor, I strive to pass on that knowledge and I urge my students to think critically, ask questions, and be kind.

Student feedback

  • “Alex was very helpful and understanding this semester, and they did a lot to help me pass this semester and advance academically. I struggled with my mental health significantly this semester and Alex made a point to reach out throughout the semester when he noticed I was falling behind, and I truly appreciate his concern and his willingness to support me and give me the chance to pass.”
  • “He has a way about him that allows you to learn and challenge yourself while also making it enjoyable to attend class. It was by far one of my favorite classes I’ve taken at UAlbany.”
  • “Professor Perry was amazing! I loved the way he communicated the course material. He was there to answer any questions. He always made sure to stop and make sure everyone understood the content. Professor Perry also incorporated many fun in-class activities that were engaging and taught us the material, but in a way that students can understand.”
  • “Excellent professor [who] knows what he’s talking about and [is] open to both sides of an argument.”
  • “I found this class very interesting. Professor Perry is clearly very knowledgeable and passionate about what he was teaching which made it easier to be engaged. I appreciated his openness to input and ideas from students. I felt like I was held to a higher standard of writing than I have been in a class in a while which at first was an adjustment but overall was very helpful in pushing me to perform to my best ability.”
